Assassination of Franz Ferdinand - The First World War - 1914 Kaiser Wilhelm II and Franz Ferdinand, the Austrian heir to the throne, meet. Amongst other things they discuss Serbia and Russia. Franz Ferdinand then heads to Serbia with his wife for an official visit. In the midst of growing local tension (Serbians wanted independence from the Austro-Hungarian empire) he and his wife are assassinated by a Serbian nationalist Gavro Princlip on the 28th.
30th June. The German ambassador to Austria advises Franz Josef, the emperor, not to react too hastily in dealing with his brothers assassins and the Serbians in general. |
