The Vimy Ridge War memorial

Canada sent approximately 650,000 men and women to participate in the First World War and over 66,000 Canadians gave their lives in the effort. And in the remembrance of all those worthy people they built this memorial site.

The Canadian memorial at Vimy Ridge, the site of the Canadians heroics during the First World War. Click on the picture to go to a gallery of images taken at the Vimy ridge memorial.

This memorial place was built to represent the people who fought in the First World War. In this way it also represented the warriors but also paid respect for what they had done for their country.
The memorial stand of Vimy Ridge shows all of the warriors names, and the names are carved into the stone as high as it goes and as wide.

The trenches at Vimy Ridge have been carefully preserved by the Canadian authorities to provide a lasting reminder of the sacrifices made by thousands of young Canadians. Images of these trenches ca be found in the Image Galleries.

The Vimy Ridge War memorial is a segment of a larger piece of work written by a year 9 student at Laisterdyke High School. Click here to view information about the Battle for Vimy ridge and the Battle of Arras.
