Augustus became the leader of the Empire (in 31BC) because he won a battle. The Battle was called Actium. Augustus got all his friends to meet together and choose him as leader. He was the first Roman Emperor (in 27BC). died in 14 . Some people living at the time of Augustus wrote very good things about him. They said he brought peace, there was no more fighting. They said he was a very nice man who was always polite. Other people made of Augustus looking tall, strong and healthy. Some people wrote bad things about Augustus they said he killed all his . He sent his worst enemy Brutus's head back to Rome. One man wrote that when Augustus tried to speak to the crowd "...as soon as he came in front of them they threw stones at      him." Some people said was small and weak and he limped. Augustus also wrote about all the great things he did, for example, he paid the more money. He organised the building of all over the empire. But a lot of evidence about Augustus has been destroyed or is lost. It is very difficult to find out the truth about Augustus.
