Boom Essay

In the Paper two exam you might be expected to write a 500 word essay on the Boom.  Part of that Essay might be on the Dark Side of the Boom.  Use the diagram below and your notes to write a 500-word essay on the Boom.

Essay Questions:

1.  “The 1920s in the USA had two sides to it: a prosperous side which brought an

       economic boom and a darker side which brought intolerance and organised

       crime.”

Explain why many Americans prospered during the 1920s, and why many also suffered from the activities of the Ku Klux Klan and the effects of Prohibition.

2.  “The Ku Klux Klan, Prohibition and Gangsters were the dark side of American life

       in the 1920s, but it was the economic boom that mattered to most Americans.”

Explain the main features of life in the USA in the Roaring Twenties and say how far you agree with this statement.

Both these questions can be simplified into one question:

3.  Who gained most during the Boom in the 1920s, and why?  Who did not gain

     from the Boom in the 1920s and Why?
