'Gory Stories'

Crime and Punishment

This section provides brief overviews of some elements of the SHP Crime and Punishment course. There is a detailed simulation relatin to the Luddites along with a series of brief overviews outlining other political protests of the industrial age. These provide some insight into the way in which law and order operated at the time of each event - but do not provide extensive or detailed notes for the GCSE course.

Also you may find the 'Gory Story' section of use. Originally developed several years ago, this section is a collection of powerpoint presentations and links put together for a series of lunchtime sessions on Crime related topics. Some of these are of relevance to the SHP GCSE study of Crime and Punihsment, others are useful for general interest, for extension activities and for extra curricular clubs, for which they were all originally intended.

Students wanting more specific guidance on the SHP Crime and Punihsment course will find the following sites of more use:

Learnhistory.org.uk - excellent selection of resources, links and activities relating to the Crime and Punishment course.

The History Site - very good selection of downloads, podcasts and links.

The Learning Curve - the National Archives unit on Crime and Punishment combines excellent sources with sound narrative to provide you with a really useful overview of Crime, Punishment and Prevention from the Middle Ages through to the modern day.
