The consequences of the First World War - 1919

It's far too easy to forget that for many the consequences of war are taken right back into the homes of the injured soldiers. This outstanding BBC recording helps to illustrate some of the things that have happened to help the carers and those whom they care for.

In January 1919 the leaders of some 32 nations met in Paris to begin the conferences that would decide the terms of peace. The results of these conferences were the different peace treaties, one to deal with each of the Central Powers.

The Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles, Paris, was the venue of the major negotiations prior to the peace treaties being published.
