Official histories of the First World War- 1919

The first official documentary histories of the British involvement in the first World War were released, in some cases only to government officials, during 1919. Whilst these are often very long and technical reports on the manner in which operations were conducted they are an interesting insight into the way in which the war was fought and the logic behind some tactics.

Official histories and accounts, such as those written by Douglas Haig can provide an intriguing insight into the way that wars were waged.

A report on the British Intelligence Service's operations during the war, originally released in may 1919 can be read at: http://www.lib.byu.edu/~rdh/wwi/1917/secret.html

In March 1919 Sir Douglas Haig had written his final dispatch as Commander in Chief of the British Forces on the Western Front. This can be read at: http://www.lib.byu.edu/~rdh/wwi/1918p/haigdesp.html
