Officers and men who perform gallant and heroic deeds during wartime are rewarded for their conduct with medals. Captain H Maskell was the receipient of the Military Cross, quite a high ranking honour. The citation outlining his endeavours can be read by clicking on the thumbnail belwo.
The awarding of medals such as the Military cross was very important and the bravery of the men given these awards was recognised throughout the ranks. In the following letter there is an example of a more senior officer choosing to pas on his congratulations and praise to Captain Maskell.
