Egyptian Medicine

Ancient Greece: Hints

Hints for Question 1
  • The Greeks and Egyptians had similar religious beliefs.
  • Knowledge of the anatomy existed in Egyptian times due to mummification.
  • Natural causes and cures of diseases figured highly in both societies.
  • The Theory of the Four Humours looked for causes in a different way.

When answering a question like this make sure that you find SOME differences and SOME similarities. Provide examples of these to support your answer.

Hints for Question 2

Look for evidence of WAR. The Greeks would have attempted to heal wounds of soldiers. (Read Homer's section).

Don't presume that the statement is leading you in the right direction: it is possible that the Greeks did know how to heal these wounds.

Use knowledge of previous periods: if prehistoric man could cauterise and use 'pots' to heal broken bones then surely the Greeks could.
